Awake

a faceless image of you lingers in my head
a dream when I'm awake
you visit me daily
night by night you stay by my side
an untouchable entity
cannot wrap my arms around you
or feel your hand in mind
as you drag me from place to place
your voice cannot resonate in my ears
but I hear you loud and clear
saying the things I want to hear
saying the things I long to hear
not saying anything at all
you linger in the darkness of the night
within the corners of my mind
unsettling my thoughts
provoking my very identity
so I lay wide awake
desperately trying
to escape this waking dream
welcoming the cover of sleep
where I may hide from you once again
