Follower or Leader
The quest to stay young and trendy hinders true progress. If you think if innovators and trendsetters, they are those who dared to step out of the pack and make a bold statement. They are the outcasts, the nerds, the socially awkward individuals who think differently from everyone else. Perhaps because of this, they have more to gain by embracing their individuality. We all claim to be 'unique.' And in many aspects we are. Our genetic makeup makes it so. No one set of DNA is the the same as another. Yet as a society we strive for complacency, a comfortable set of rules that are easily followed. When innovation is struck somewhere, the so called 'early adopters' are drawn to it like moths to a flame. But our pursuit to 'keep up with the times' forces us to be come followers; hiding behind what's been labeled as 'hip' and 'trendy' in order to hide the fact that we are incapable to coming up with anything more original.

Monster
Eyes green as the emerald sea
The monster leering behind
Who has what you do not
Success is measured by what you have
Words. Chatter. More words.
Blah blah blah
Too many words to digest
Over and over the same words
What is there left for me to say
Voices grow louder
Phrases as sharp as knives
Stinging with each touch
As silence blankets over us
I am that monster
Telling you things you don't want to hear
Do you even hear me?
Or do you even care?
Over and over the same exchange
Words beaten down
Until all meaning disappears
Have to find blame in someone
Who else is there but me
I am that monster
The one refusing to give up
Does not obey every command
Not agreeable to a fault
I will play the part
A punching bag, if you will
Until all wind is knocked out of me
And I fall face down on the ground
The monster leering behind
Who has what you do not
Success is measured by what you have
Words. Chatter. More words.

No light at the end of the tunnel
Staring towards the end of the tunnel
Is there really a light there?
Too far away
Can not get a glimpse at any glimmer
Only shadows cover my view
Where are we heading?
Stumbling around in darkness
Nowhere to go but forward
Tunnels leading only to longer tunnels
The blinding dark
One step ahead of another
Desperately trying to follow your every step
In the steep climb you've set upon us
The destination only you can see
I thought we've made it there already
But only you know where we're heading
The steeper our climb becomes
Nothing left but just to follow
No words to guide us
Only darkness there ahead
So I walk on blindly
Each step following yours
Maybe one day you'll see our happy ending
Til then I'll just walk along
Is there really a light there?
Too far away
Can not get a glimpse at any glimmer
Only shadows cover my view
Where are we heading?
Stumbling around in darkness
Nowhere to go but forward
Tunnels leading only to longer tunnels
The blinding dark

Prevalence of Procratination
Just wanted to share an interesting study on procrastination. This article has some pretty cools facts:

Darkness
Little by little
The light is dimming
One by one
Removing each bulb
Until only darkness remains
The light is dimming
One by one
Removing each bulb
Until only darkness remains

Unreachable
Who am I?
More importantly, who do you want me to be?
So many questions
No answers I can give to sooth you
Fears holding you in a tight grip
Shaking sanity and logic within its grasp
I desperately try to set you free
This uphill battle grows steeper with each step
With no one else to guide us
No one must know
No one can know
No freedom of expression for an artist
Creating only in your vision
Until your perfection is reached
But such existence is one
Only in fairy tales can they be seen
Stories told at bed time
To help lull us to sleep
But still you continue to focus
On that image only you can see
But day by day I will work on that image
Each stroke meticulously placed
So that I may glimpse at your happiness
Even only for a moment
But there is no satisfaction in your eyes
One goal achieved only brings a new one
More demanding than before
So you continue on your journey
A treacherous uphill climb to that pedestal
Where everyone can see you from below
But how long before you realize
You will be standing there alone
More importantly, who do you want me to be?
