as i attempt to find my footing
where to place my next step?
my eyes rapidly dance around
searching for a familiar face
a comfortable sight
to steady my demeanor
no hand ahead to guide me through
no arms behind to hold me
or catch me if i fall
alone i stare blankly ahead
struggling to compose my thoughts
to make sense of what i see
what do i see?
vague ideas of what could be
a small glimpse of what's to come
but comprehension is nowhere near
so i continue to stand on one foot
off-balanced
still not knowing where to hold my ground
nothing left to do
but take the deepest breath
and just go
